This year’s sector-specific debate within the 6^th Building Sector in Poland 2022 Forum was held on 7 October. It was an opportunity to meet, exchange experiences, and carry out substantive talks with representatives of management boards of building companies from all over Poland. The primary subject matter of all the discussion panels included a forecast of development of the building market in upcoming years, looking through the prism of current problems, also connected with the COVID-19 pandemic, affecting this field of economy.

One of the speakers within the panel concerning residential/commercial/industrial buildings was Karol Zduńczyk – President of the Management Board of DORACO. He paid attention, among other things, to the necessity of valorizing contracts with investors in the context of changes in prices of building materials. Now, the remarkable rise in prices of materials and repeatedly their limited availability and a shortage of staff members are huge challenges for building companies. However, it must be emphasised that the industry copes well with the said issues – the building sector, as one of few industries, did not record a decline in 2020.

A perch was hung on 4 October, Monday, on the northern stand of the F. Krygier City Stadium in Szczecin. The topping-out ceremony is an old tradition in the construction industry, which means that a particular stage of the construction works has ended. It is an opportunity to thank all persons involved in the implementation of the entire project. The solemn meeting was attended, among others, by President Piotr Krzystek, President of the Management Board of Pogoń Szczecin – Jarosław Mroczek, and Karol Zduńczyk – President of the Management Board of DORACO, the General Contractor of the investment.

The works on the construction of the northern stand are at an advanced stage. Part of the stand for VIP fans has already taken shape. At the same time, subsequent elements of the roof’s steel construction are still being installed, as well as works on backup facilities of the stands. The surroundings of the stadium from Twardowskiego Street to Karłowicza Street are also underway. The end of construction works is scheduled for spring 2022.

On September 29, 2021, in the Office of the Węgorzewo Municipality, an agreement was signed for the execution of works under the project: Construction and redevelopment of infrastructure related to the development of the economic functions of the Great Masurian Lakes waterway, including the construction of the “Guzianka II” lock and renovation of the “Guzianka I” lock / Stage III – renovation of the “Guzianka I” lock, renovation of the lock and weir in Karwik, a weir in Kwik, improvement of the patency of the WJM waterway by carrying out hydrotechnical work on the canals and their connections with the lakes, reconstruction and reinforcement of 3 canals and the Węgorapa River, reconstruction of the lakeside of Mikołajskie and Niegocin Lakes.

The works in question will consist of the demolition of the existing, damaged shoreline reinforcements that do not fulfill their function and the construction of a new shoreline reinforcement on the Węgorapa River. In addition, repair works and the repair of damaged reinforcements – fulfilling their technical functions and the reconstruction of the stone approach walls and the execution of the superstructure of the existing riprap will be accomplished.

The project aims to protect the Węgorapa River banks against scouring caused both by natural processes causing erosion of the banks and by vessels navigating on the waters of the Węgorapa River. The project also aims to improve navigational safety by achieving adequate transit depth and waterway width. The following long-term goals will be achieved through the implementation of the project:

• improving the safety of navigation and water tourism,
• increased safety of the local community,
• increasing the attractiveness of the region and its socio-economic development.

The Węgorapa River is navigable in the system of the Great Masurian Lakes, which is part of the Pisz-Węgorzewo navigable route. The Mamry Lake outlet to Węgorzewski Channel is about 1,022 m long and 25-60 m wide. About 1 km below the Mamry Lake outlet, the river is shortened by the Węgorzewski Channel, cutting off the oxbow with an artificial island. Then the channel joins the oxbow again and flows into the port section in the town of Węgorzewo. The town section is about 800 m long. It ends at the “Zamek” weir, which dams the water up in the harbor section of Węgorzewo to the required navigable water level and regulates the outflow to the lower station on the no longer navigable Węgorapa River section.

This project is a component of the construction and reconstruction of infrastructure connected with the development of economic functions on the Great Masurian Lakes waterways described in the socio-economic development strategy of the area (“Great Masurian Lakes 2020 – strategy”), constituting its third stage.

The project is implemented based on a partnership agreement between the Great Masurian Lakes Association 2020 and the State Water Management Company Wody Polskie Regional Water Management Board in Warsaw and based on an agreement on co-financing from the ERDF funds concluded with the Marshal’s Office in Olsztyn.

The cost of the construction works is PLN 21 857 993.15. EU funding: PLN 18,579,294.18, State Budget funds: PLN 3,278,698.97.

We are pleased to announce that the quay construction at Mikołajskie Lake received the honorable title of best building in the category of sports and recreation facilities in the prestigious competition “Modernization of the Year & Construction of the 21st century” for 2020.

According to the organizer, the Association for the Protection of National Material Heritage, this competition is an initiative to set new trends in construction, promoting the best modernization and construction projects. The competition rewards investors, contractors, and designers for an actual realization as a joint work of three entities. This is one element that distinguishes this competition from other events of this kind, which are usually addressed only to one of the groups, such as investors or designers. The competition aims to select construction projects: modernization and new structures in urban space completed in a given year, which stand out due to their exceptional value in the aspects of quality, functionality, urban planning, and aesthetics. The Competition Jury, consisting of representatives of the organizers and persons appointed by the Organizing Committee and the Competition Chapter, visits all the sites qualified for the finals.

In the 25^th Jubilee edition of the competition, over 470 projects from all over Poland took part, and over 87 qualified for the finals. In the strict top ten, there were projects representing most of the Polish regions.

The award ceremony took place on September 22^nd at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Commemorative statuettes and diplomas were received by representatives of the Investor, the Mikołajki Municipality – Joanna Wróbel and Rafal Chwidziewicz, and the President of the DORACO Management Board, Karol Zduńczyk.

DORACO employees have always been willing to help those in need and take care of their physical shape by, among other things, participating in the DORACO Health Academy and undertaking other sports activities.

Therefore, doubly motivated, we took part in the Charity Dragon Regatta organized by the Rotary Club of Gdańsk Centrum, which took place on September 25^th on the waters of the Motława River in Gdańsk.

Eight company teams took part in the competition, and the income from the regatta will be donated to the Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Clinic of the University Clinical Center in Gdańsk.

On 21-23 September this year, the 11^th Geo-Engineering in Building Industry conference was held, organized by the Publishing House Inżynieria.com. It was an opportunity to broadly exchange knowledge, views, and experiences, particularly considering best practices in geo-engineering. The group of speakers consisted of persons from the sector-specific scientific world, the legal world, the world of insurance, occupational health and safety, and practitioners representing investors, general contractors, and subcontractors of building investments. DORACO was represented by Vice-President of the Management Board Radosław Preiss, who took part in the debate on the best practices in the residential/commercial/industrial building industry. On 21-24 September this year, the 14th International Railway Fair TRAKO was held on the premises of AmberExpo in Gdańsk. It is the largest and most prestigious event of the rail industry in Poland and the second such significant event in Europe – this year, it gathered almost 23,000 participants from 39 countries and over 500 exhibitors from all over the world! During the four days of the fair, they had an opportunity to hold dozens of industry meetings, participate in interesting factual debates and see the latest rolling stock.

Among the exhibitors, for the third time already, one of the companies of the Hass Holding Group – DORACO Infrastructure – was represented, the only distributor in Poland of the Rosehill Rail track and road crossing system. Representatives of the company presented innovative systems solutions with various applications on all types of roads, pedestrian crossings, and railway and tramway crossings. DORACO Infrastructure projects using Rosehill Rail track and road crossings are located, among others, in the Gdańsk Stogi area or the city center, next to the Gdańsk Forum.

On Thursday, September 23rd, a ceremony was held to mark the completion of the construction of a public ferry terminal in the Port of Gdynia. This strategic investment has been the largest in the Port of Gdynia for nearly 50 years. This project will create the possibility of servicing much larger passenger ferries and will increase the Port’s reloading capacity in the field of ro-ro and ferry transport, thus contributing to maintaining the market advantage of the Port of Gdynia.

“This is one of the most spectacular projects implemented by DORACO in recent years. The public ferry terminal project involved a wide range of activities in almost all trades of construction (building, hydrotechnical, sanitary, electrical, ICT, road, bridge) and mechanical engineering. In the latter, it is noteworthy to point out unusual and innovative solutions in the field of mobile coupling devices and a system of mobile ramps, thanks to which the quality and speed of unloading at the public ferry terminal in the Port of Gdynia will be significantly improved”  said Karol Zduńczyk, President of the Board of DORACO. “The activities associated with the investment were carried out on an extensive area (over 6 ha), which required DORACO to efficiently coordinate the work of over 200 specialists from all of the trades as mentioned above.”

To construct the large maneuvering yards, over 6.5 ha of maneuvering areas were constructed, paved with paving blocks, over 5 km of sanitary networks were created, 1,150 m of track and almost the same amount of yard fencing were erected, and high lighting poles were installed to illuminate the entire parking area. Two hundred eighty tons of reinforcing steel, 330 tons of steel structure, and almost 4,500 m³ of concrete were used to construct the buildings, i.e., the terminal building, warehouse, photoshooters, and the passenger gallery. The new public ferry terminal has been fitted out with specialist equipment whose design and method of operation enables a wide range of ferry types. These include a set of quayside ramps and a mobile coupling, i.e., a track-mounted device which provides pedestrian communication for passengers and staff between the permanent gallery of the ferry terminal and the ferry.

The public ferry terminal in the Port of Gdynia was implemented following the idea of a green port, which is expressed by the electric connection used for such an installation for the first time in Poland. It will be used by ferries docked at the terminal. The OPS, or onshore power supply, also known as cold ironing, is a system designed to supply electricity to a ship from shore while it is in port, eliminating carbon dioxide emissions, sulfur oxide, nitrogen oxide, and fine particles. It also reduces the vibration and noise produced by the generators on the ferry and extends the life of the ship’s auxiliary engines by not using them. This reduces the negative impact of ferry transport on the environment and its effect on the city center. The comfort of the ferry crew is also improved.

The project is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment in the perspective of the years 2014 – 2020. The investment value is approximately PLN 290 million, of which the European Union co-financing is PLN 116,837,137.67.
