The project entitled: “Bank reinforcement and unblocking of the Węgorapa River” is a component of the undertaking: “Construction and redevelopment of infrastructure related to the development of the economic functions of the Great Mazurian Lakes waterway, including the construction of the ‘Guzianka II’ lock and renovation of the ‘Guzianka I’ lock / Stage III – renovation of the ‘Guzianka I’ lock, renovation of the lock and weir in Karwik, the weir in Kwik, improvement of patency of the Great Mazurian Lakes waterway by carrying out hydrotechnical work on the canals and their connections with the lakes, reconstruction and reinforcement of 3 canals and the Węgorapa River, reconstruction of the lakeside of Mikołajskie and Niegocin Lakes.”

The project aims to protect the Węgorapa River banks against scouring caused both by natural processes causing erosion of the banks and by vessels navigating on the waters of the Węgorapa River. The project also aims to improve the safety of navigation by obtaining adequate transit depth and width of the waterway.

DORACO’s scope of works (along a total length of over 1,700 meters) will include:

  • the dismantling of destroyed and execution of new bank reinforcements,
  • the reconstruction of the stone flow directing dike (entrance from Mamry Lake),
  • dredging works performed to the depth of 1.6 m,
  • marking the navigable route,
  • installation of equipment

The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Regional Operational Programme of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship for 2014-2020, implemented in partnership between the Great Mazurian Lakes Association 2020 and the State Water Management Company Wody Polskie.
