The topping out ceremony on a building of the IT Institute of the University of Gdańsk was held on 1 March 2019. Apart from representatives of DORACO – a general contractor of the investment, it was attended by authorities of the University of Gdańsk and the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Information Technology of the University of Gdańsk, a partner of the project – Kainos Software Poland Sp. z o.o., academic community of the higher education school and invited guests.
Prof. Jerzy Piotr Gwizdała, a Rector of the University of Gdańsk and Prof. Piotr Bojarski, a Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Information Technology of the University of Gdańsk emphasized in their speeches the importance of the investment for development of the Pomeranian region.
“Construction of the modern building of the Institute of Information Technology of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Information Technology of the University of Gdańsk is a response to the huge needs of the labour market in the IT sector. Thanks to this investment, it is possible to lead a new field of studies at the University of Gdańsk – Information Technology with a practical profile. The investment is needed by all means and I am convinced that our graduates will be sought-after specialists ,” said Rector of the University of Gdańsk Prof. Jerzy Piotr Gwizdała.
Prof. Tomasz Dzido, the Director of the Institute of Information Technology, emphasized the unique character of the new field of studies – Information Technology with a practical profile which was set up in cooperation with employers and within which a considerable part of classes will be conducted by specialists from companies in Trójmiasto. They will be full-time BSc studies and recruitment will be activated already in June 2019.
Karol Zduńczyk, the President of DORACO Construction Corporation, said about progress of the investment and reminded the symbolic meaning of the topping out ceremony as a fortunate omen for the investor and the contractor.
Finalization of the investment is planned in the second half-year of 2019.
